RYAN'S COMPOSTING
About Me
Hi, my name is Ryan Yoo, I'm a Korean-American living in Southern California, and a student in the Culinary Arts and Hospitality conservatory at the Orange County School of the Arts! I'm 17, and besides cooking, I also enjoy delving into the world of custom keyboards, one of which I am typing on right now. My favorite subject to learn about at school is math; I like the feeling of understanding new concepts in it. I also enjoy playing sports and I have been doing archery for 7 years! Although, I've had my fair share of ups and downs in it, I still appreciate the sport and strive to become better at it. One of my weaknesses is writing, perhaps this website can help with that as I blog my composting endeavors! I have cared about the environment ever since I was little — perhaps 6 or 7 years old — and more recently, I have wanted to help sustain it!
How I got into composting:
One of the first steps I took toward achieving this goal was composting, specifically, bokashi composting. I was first inspired to start composting when I noticed the amount of food waste we were creating just at home, and when I learned about composting, it sounded like the perfect solution. I actually felt so strongly about this, that I used to eat the stems of strawberries, thinking it was wasteful to throw them away and create waste. I hope to learn more throughout this journey!
Current goals:
OCSA Compost Club is continuing to divert food waste to a local Santa Ana community center, and we hope to start expanding compost bins across our campus soon!
